Alivisatos and Chakraborty Honored by Peers

Paul Alivisatos and Arup Chakraborty

Paul Alivisatos and Arup Chakraborty have been elected to three of the most prestigious societies in science and engineering. Alivisatos has been named to the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and Chakraborty is a new member of the National Academy of Engineering.

Alivisatos, Professor of Chemistry and of Materials Science and Director of the Molecular Foundry at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, is a world-leader in the field of nanotechnology, studying materials with sizes on the order of one billionth of a meter.

Chakraborty, the Warren and Katharine Schlinger Distinguished Professor, Chair of Chemical Engineering and Professor of Chemistry, is a theoretical chemist working at the interface of medicine and physical science. He uses statistical mechanical models to advance our understanding of fundamental questions in immunology.

Congratulations to both professors!
