Dean Toste receives New Investigator Award

Assistant professor of chemistry Dean Toste is the recipient of the 2003 New Investigator award in Organic Chemistry from Boehrinder Ingelheim. Toste joined the faculty in the summer of 2002, after receiving his Ph.D. from Stanford with Barry Trost. For his thesis, he explored the palladium catalyzed assymmetric allylic alkenylation and its application to natural product synthesis. He also developed several new ruthenium catalyzed C-C bond forming reactions.

His current reseach focuses on the development of new synthetic methods and their application to the total synthesis of intersting moelcules. According to the press release "Professor Toste exemplifies the commitment to innovation and excellence that will help define the next generation of scientific leadership."
