Blum elected AAAS fellow

Arlene Blum, a noted mountain climber who earned her Ph.D. with Ignacio Tinoco in 1971, has been elected a Fellow of the American Assocation for the Advancement of Science. Blum, a former visiting scholar in the Tinoco lab in the College of Chemistry, was elected to the section on societal impacts of science and engineering. Blum has been instrumental in advocating for new public policy approaches to the problem of toxic brominated flame retardants in consumer products. Her work was featured in the Fall 2007 issue of Catalyst.
